This year, the G-Eco group, as part of the Eco-Schools project, is working on ways to make our school more sustainable. We are developing small projects that we hope will make a difference to school life and our planet.

We are working on four main initiatives, each with our own goals. We want to show that even the smallest actions can have a massive impact.

Pond Restoration

Suriah is leading a pond restoration project with Miss Bedding during Period 7. The aim is to improve the pond area and help wildlife. Planning is already underway, and the project will continue during Monday Period 7 over the summer term.

Tackling Litter

Isabelle and Dipsi are leading a whole-school approach to reducing litter. This includes organising a school litter pick linked to the Great Big School Clean-Up.

Litter will be collected on 22 May, and the bags will be weighed. The House that collects the most litter will be awarded the Green Flag.

We may also organise litter picking on MAD day.

They are also exploring creative ways to reuse litter by turning it into art or useful objects. If you have any ideas, please get in touch!

Digital Clean-Up

Jake and Lucio are leading a digital clean-up project to reduce unnecessary data and our online footprint.
We hope to use some form time for students to clean up emails and files on their school tablets.

Switch It Off

Isabelle, Skye and Lucio are working on an energy-saving initiative. On 21 May at 8:30 pm, we will take part in an Earth Hour-style event and aim for just 30 minutes without plugged-in devices such as TVs, PlayStations, laptops, or phones.

  • Boarders: lights, laptops, and phones switched off
  • Non-boarders at home: lights, TVs, phones, tablets, and other devices switched off.

Suggested activities during the switch-off: going for a walk, playing outside, sport, board games and other non-online games with family or friends at home or in school

Through these projects, we want everyone to think about their everyday habits and help build a more sustainable future.

Watch this space! G-Eco is just getting started!
