The 1st VII Gordon’s Netball team has truly been shooting for the stars at the Independent Super League Final on Wednesday, 21st January 2026. On Sunday, however, they were crowned London and South East Champions in the National Schools Regional round earning both second place and a spot in the highly sought-after National finals which takes place in March this year.
Catching up with Emily and Elissia, two members of the netball team, The Quarterly Gazette were able to chat with them about their experiences. Here’s their viewpoints on the events:
Q: How did the matches turn out overall? How difficult did you find your opponents?
Emily: Our first match was initially a semi-final against Millfield School; we beat them by quite a lot (29 – 42 to Gordons!) Afterwards, our final for first place was against Berkhamstead, and by the first half we were losing by one goal- very tight competition. In the end, we ended up losing by just three goals. They were a great team; we just made a few more mistakes than they did!
Elissia: I think next time we definitely have the ability to beat them.
Emily: Yes, we may end up playing them again in Nationals too.
Q: Congratulations on your results! What’s the journey been like getting up to this point for you both?
Elissia: We originally had Counties, which was around a couple of months ago. After winning that, we went through to Regional finals and won that too.
Emily: Now we’re though to Nationals in March, and we’re so proud of both our team and the results.
Q: How do you feel about getting to the Nationals? What would you say you’re looking forward to the most?
Elissia: We’re so proud and very, very happy with the results.
Emily: When playing at the Regionals, we unfortunately didn’t have our full squad available. In the Independent Super League finals, we came second. We’re all so proud. I think we’re just very excited to see what the Nationals are going to bring, really.
With the team set on coming home with the main prize, we at The Quarterly Gazette think that the sky is the limit for this team! We wish them great success in all their games.
