G-Eco

BY LUCIO

G-Eco is a P7 group that runs every Monday, where we work to make Gordon’s a greener place by encouraging wildlife into our school.

At the beginning of the summer term, P7 G-eco got to work. Firstly, we planted thirty saplings on the front field, including ten wild cherries, ten silver birch, and ten crab apple trees.

As the area outside Food Tech was very overgrown and dismal, we also tried to brighten it up by planting all sorts of wildflowers, such as daffodils. We hope to see these blooming just after the May half term.

In addition, we planted fruit and vegetables like strawberries, tomatoes, courgettes, and lettuce. These will be a reliable food source for Food Tech, which could help Gordon’s School save money and become more eco-friendly. We need to go green to bleed green.

Unfortunately, our request for new bins to improve recycling was turned down, as the bins were too expensive. However, our other requests were accepted, and we hope to see more wildlife at Gordon’s, such as birds, bees, and butterflies.

Here are pictures showing the flowerbeds before our work, and how we hope they will look in the end:
