An electrifying build-up awaits the incredible First Team netballers on Wednesday, 11th February 2026. They are raring and ready to go in a match against Berkhamsted after exceptional performance at the ISL Netball League Finals. With the game taking place just before the team travels to play in the highly sought-after National Finals in March, the netballers are bringing all the excitement and passion to our very own backyard. This will take place at the school’s sports hub.
Berkhamsted, however, are not a new opponent for the team to take on. Having previously faced off against the Hertfordshire school in January, Gordon’s are already ready to take back a powerful win on the way to the National Finals.
The Quarterly Gazette team spoke to Ms Humphrys, the team’s netball coach, and Amelie, one of the netballers taking part. Here’s what they have to say before the big event:
Q: Before the big match, how are you and your team feeling? What will you be specifically focusing on, and what would you like to achieve in the end?
Ms Humphrys: We actually played them in the Independent Schools League Final. We’ve done our homework, gone back to the drawing board and specifically looked at what we can do better this time. The team has been training and working very hard in sessions, and hopefully we’ll be ready to go for game day on Wednesday.
Amelie: I think it’s a great chance to prove ourselves as a team. We played them [Berkhamstead] a couple of times, and we were definitely close to beating them, so we’re all really excited. We’re definitely gunning for a win!
Q: In addition, what advice you would offer for aspiring younger netballers throughout the school? What would you recommend?
Amelie: Continue to train hard – always work on feedback that’s given, and most importantly try your best!
Ms Humphrys: There’s lots of qualities you need as a netballer, and to make it at this level you have to be motivated, committed, open-minded and really resilient. Skill-wise, you need to work specifically on your attacking and defending game, and look for improvement in everything you do. Work exceptionally hard, and watch how far you’ll go!
We at the Quarterly Gazette, alongside the rest of the school, will certainly be watching our team in anticipation as they fly high!
