Our artistic students here at Gordon’s shone brightly on Monday, 24 November when their creations were showcased and celebrated.

Well done to all of the finalists for their dedication to the arts.

The three artworks below were created for a Carol Service Cover.

From complex origami swans to alluring paintings, the Winter Arts Competition has been completed. A highlight of the night was watching parents, staff and pupils alike being in awe of some amazing pieces of work. The atmosphere in the exhibition hall was calm yet buzzing with admiration, as the students and staff moved from piece to piece, pausing to take in the details.

After conversing with some parents, a lot of them said that what made this event special was the variety of styles and artworks there were, all inspired by the singular theme winter.

From a student’s point of view, the event highlighted how creativity can transform a single theme into countless interpretations. I think the way winter was expressed not only as cold and quiet, but also as warm, festive, and full of life was interesting. I felt proud of our school’s art community for celebrating individuality while coming together under one shared theme. The Winter Arts competition showed that art has the power to connect us, even in the darkest season of the year.

In the end, Art Scholar Jemima (Yr 12 – Pictured), won first place in this year’s Winter Arts competition’s KS5 category. Praised for her thoughtful approach and exceptional creativity, her approach to the theme truly set her work apart.

Rachel was awarded 2nd place for this joyful drawing.

With third place going to India with her foxy impression.

A particularly memorable piece of work was a striking acrylic painting depicting a figure skater skating into the sunset by Maeve in Year 10 who won in the KS4 category. The detail of the vibrant colours of the sky and depth of her work was impressively conveyed. Maeve said that “It felt amazing to see my painting displayed alongside so many beautiful pieces”.

The runner up prize for KS4 was given to Imogen.

Jane (Yr 8 – pictured) took home gold in KS3 with her enchanting origami swans.

Second place went to Poppy (pictured) and Henry…

And Genevieve took third place with this striking image, with recognition being given to all participants for their incredible effort, creativity and sportsmanship.
