It was truly a wonderful experience to take part in the Cove School Remembrance ceremony on Monday, 10 November.

When our group of fourteen – Mrs Scotson, eight pipers, four snare drummers and one base – first arrived at the school gates to set up, we had to wait patiently inside whilst each year group were presented their various Remembrance Day assemblies.

Soon afterwards, however, we were all quickly ushered out to play at the school gates just in time for the end of each assembly, where we then played three separate tunes – Brown Haired Maiden (2/4s), I See Mull (3/4s) and Bonnie Galloway (4/4s).

Each time we went outside, around five times in total, we simply decided to switch around the various melodies, trying our very best to keep the students in good spirits throughout the light drizzle.

After we’d finished the final notes for the last assembly we were served delicious Costco cookies, various flaky pastries and hot chocolate – certainly a welcome relief from the cold!
