Ethan, our reporter from The Quarterly Gazette, spoke to two Y8 students, Dylan and Harry, about their chosen P7 club.

What inspired you to join this period seven?

Dylan: I’ve watched F1 with my family before, so when I saw it as a Period 7 option, I wanted to actually learn how everything works instead of just watching.

Harry: My friend said they were doing F1 club and I thought that F1 looked interesting, so I signed up!

Did you join because you are already a Formula 1 racing fan, or just curious? Dylan: A little of both — I already liked watching it, but I didn’t know a lot of the details, so I joined to learn more.

Harry: Mostly just curious! I’d seen it on TV a couple times but didn’t really get what was going on.

What specific aspect of Formula 1 made you choose this over other Period 7 options?

Dylan: F1 isn’t just a sport — there’s a lot of science and strategy behind it too, like aerodynamics and pit stops. That made it more interesting to me than the other choices.

Harry: The cars are so fast and I like that it’s not just driving — there’s a lot of team strategy and gadgets involved.

What is the coolest fact or piece of trivia you have learned about F1 so far?

Dylan: F1 cars can go from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds — faster than most regular sports cars. Also, the tires only last about one or two races because they wear down so fast.

Harry: During a pit stop, the mechanics can change all four tires in two seconds!

What kind of activities or projects are you hoping you get to do later in the term?

Dylan: I’m hoping we get to build a model car or do a project on our favourite team or driver. A pit stop time challenge would be really fun too.

Harry: I really want to build a little model F1 race car, or maybe we could have a contest to see who can design the fastest one.

If you could organize a trip or a special event for this club, what would you want it to be?

Dylan: I’d want to go to a real F1 race, or at least a go-kart track, so we could get a feel for what it’s actually like.

Harry: I’d want to go to a go-kart place so we could actually feel what racing is like, even if it’s way slower than real F1.

Would you recommend this Period 7 to other people? Why?

Dylan: Definitely. Even if you don’t know much about F1, you learn a ton about the cars, drivers, and strategy — it’s way more interesting than people think.

Harry: For sure! Even people who don’t like cars would probably think the speed and the teamwork stuff is cool.
