What is drama tech club? 

Drama tech club is where you are the star behind the scenes! You have the opportunity to design and build sets, make costumes and props for big productions. It is more exiting and important than you would have thought. There is also lots of opportunities to be backstage in the actual productions. 

Why would you want to join drama tech? 

Drama tech club isn’t for everyone as some people enjoy being on stage and performing, but I think the team backstage is just as fun and important as the actors.

Without the backstage crew, nothing would make any sense – no lights, no props, no costumes and definitely no scenery! That’s why its so much fun to be creative and then to recognise your work on stage. The satisfaction of saying, “Oh, I made that star!” or, “Hey, I painted that set!”.

What process do you follow in order to design the perfect set, costumes or props?

Highlighting the scripts are essential and the starting point for everything we do. When we do that, we get a clear idea of what the costumes are supposed to be, the props we need to make and the set we need to paint or make. Then the fun really start – the actual making or building of the items.

Sometimes we go up into the tower (the storage area for the drama department) and pick up props and sets pieces for plays.
