On 7th March 2026, we set off early in the morning as part of Gordon’s School Pipes and Drums to compete in the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships, returning on the afternoon of 8th March.
The event brought together school pipe bands from across Scotland, with us as the only band travelling from England. This made the competition feel even more significant, as we were representing not just our school but also standing out as the exception. After weeks of preparation, it was a great opportunity to showcase our hard work and commitment
After arriving on the 7th, we spent the evening go-karting, which was a fun way to relax and bond as a group before the competition. The next day, on the 8th, we performed, stepping onto the competition stage knowing all the hard work had led up to that moment. The atmosphere was exciting but also nerve-wracking, especially as the only English band competing.
One highlight was our performance, where we played with confidence and focus. “What made it special was performing together after all the practice,” said one member of the band.
From my point of view, the event really showed the dedication and teamwork within the group. In the end, we placed 22nd, but the experience was about more than the result. Being the only band from England made it even more memorable, and overall the trip brought us closer together and strengthened our pride in representing the school.
