On Wednesday, 21 January, the 1st XI Hockey team went up against Eltham Collage here at Gordon’s, securing a victory of 8-0. This win resulted in them becoming one of eight teams left in the U19 National Independent Schools Plate competition. Only one more win is needed before making it to the finals next month in Nottingham!

From the starting whistle, Eltham Collage was put under some intense pressure from our players, who, despite their A-level mocks earlier in the day, were playing with intensity and passion.
By half time, the players and viewers alike could see Gordon’s was on track for a victory! At the end of the game, Lily was very deservingly awarded Player of the Match after her hat-trick and incredible performance.
For all spectators, it was a great atmosphere due to the high quality of hockey being played and the excitement of the many goals scored. Also, this is the last season where the amazing Mr. Boots will be the hockey coach before leaving, so this made the win even more meaningful.
Players commented that the game felt, “…really positive from the start,” and some of the favourite moments were Freya, Jess and Loren scoring many goals.

Despite some questionable short corners taken, the energy remained high and the girls did not lessen the pressure or intensity on Eltham. The game clearly showed the strength and unity of the team and the outstanding level of hockey played here at Gordon’s.
Overall, it was a strong win of 8-0, with great displays of skill and passion. The team is very much looking forward to their next qualifying match before finals.
